Track what you actually spend each month, all year, in a simple spreadsheet-style ledger grouped like the Monthly budget.

How this calculator works

A budget is your plan; a ledger is what really happened. Each month, enter what you paid for every bill, grouped into credit cards, loans and rent, utilities, car gas, taxes, insurance, and other expenses. The ledger totals every item for the year, every group for each month, and your total spending, so you can spot bills that creep up, seasonal costs like summer power or winter heating, and months that ran over. Keeping a ledger year after year is one of the simplest habits for staying in control of your money, and you can download it to open in Excel.

Common questions

How is a ledger different from a budget?

A budget is your plan for what you will spend. A ledger records what you actually paid each month. Comparing the two over a full year shows which bills creep up, which months cost more, and where your plan needs adjusting.

Do I need to link my bank account?

No. You type in what you paid, the way you would in a spreadsheet. Nothing is connected to your bank, and your entries stay in your browser on your device.

Can I open my ledger in Excel?

Yes. Press Download for Excel to save the year as a CSV file with every item, category subtotals, and monthly totals.
